The Peter Rice medal competition took place in DkIT on Wednesday 19th December. The event was organised by Sinead Kelly from the School of Engineering and was run in conjunction with Engineers Ireland North East Region. Peter Rice, who was born in Dundalk, worked for the Arup group on projects such as Centre Pompidou, Lloyd’s of London, the Louvre Pyramid and Sydney Opera House and is considered to be one of Ireland’s most outstanding engineers. The Peter Rice medal commemorates his life and his work and the award is made annually to the best presented Level 7 Engineering student project in Dundalk Institute of Technology.
At this year’s event, five candidates from a range of Engineering disciplines presented their Level 7 Engineering projects to an audience of students, staff and members of the public. The finalists were John O’Reilly from Civil Engineering, Aiden Mulrey from Building Services Engineering, Paul Hand from Construction Technology, Mark McCrea from Electrical and Electronic Systems and Jamie Culleton from Mechanical Engineering. A judging panel from Engineers Ireland North East Region awarded the Peter Rice Medal to Mark McCrea from Electrical and Electronic Systems for his project on Reference Voltage Generators. The four other finalists each received best in their field certificates for their Level 7 projects.
Congratulations to Mark and all the finalists who took part in the competition.
